Why Go Solar in Las Vegas?

Solar panels in Las Vegas typically cost $17,000–$20,000 for a 6–7 kW system (Nevada's sales-tax exemption is already applied; the 30% federal credit ended Dec 31, 2025). Payback now runs roughly 9–12 years for a cash purchase — though NV Energy's rising rates keep pulling that number down. Most homeowners install 6–7 kW systems that offset nearly all their electric usage thanks to Nevada's high solar irradiance. Cash buyers pay back fastest; $0-down financing often nets monthly savings from day one.

Las Vegas is one of the best solar markets in the United States — and for good reason. With over 290 sunny days per year and an average NV Energy rate of $0.125 per kilowatt-hour, the conditions for solar savings are near-perfect. The average Las Vegas household spends around $160 per month on electricity, but homeowners who install solar routinely cut that bill to near zero — and many end up with net metering credits that carry forward through the summer peak months. Over the lifetime of a system, Las Vegas solar owners typically accumulate $51,532 in energy savings, making it one of the strongest financial decisions a homeowner can make.

The Las Vegas solar market has grown dramatically over the past decade — more than 85,000 homes in the metro area already have solar panels installed. That momentum exists because the economics genuinely work here. A properly sized system pays itself back in roughly 9 to 12 years for a cash purchase now that the 30% federal credit has ended — though NV Energy's rising rates keep pulling that number down. Most solar panels come with 25-year production warranties, so you get years of virtually free electricity after payback. Combined with Nevada's property tax exemption, the sales tax exemption on solar equipment, and net metering at 75% of retail, going solar is the best way for Las Vegas homeowners to lock in their own generation cost and hedge against NV Energy's ever-increasing rates.

Nevada Solar Incentives

Federal Tax Credit — Expired Dec 31, 2025 for Purchases

The 30% federal solar tax credit ended December 31, 2025 for systems you buy with cash or a loan. If you lease or sign a PPA, a third-party-owned system may still capture a federal incentive through the end of 2027. For most Las Vegas homeowners who buy, the real value now comes from Nevada's sales-tax and property-tax exemptions, net metering, and locking in your own generation cost against rising NV Energy rates.

NV Energy Net Metering

When your solar panels produce more power than your home uses, NV Energy credits your account at 75% of the retail rate. Those credits roll forward and can offset future bills — especially useful for spring and fall months when production peaks.

Nevada Property Tax Exemption

Nevada law (NRS 361.079) exempts the added value of a solar energy system from your property taxes entirely. Your home's assessed value increases, but your tax bill doesn't — the solar portion is excluded.

Nevada Sales Tax Exemption

Solar equipment in Nevada is exempt from state sales tax under NRS 374.2911. That's an immediate 8.375% savings on your hardware costs right at the time of purchase — no paperwork, no rebate process required.

"Daniel is very good at his job. Makes you feel as a valued customer. He was very helpful through our nearly 3 month solar panel install project. He was proactive throughout the project always letting us know what to expect in the next step and was quick to respond to our questions. The SunSolar Solutions crew that we dealt with from the installers, their inspector, and Angel, the last tech who came through to finish up the project were all very polite, informative, and professional. Would recommend them when considering solar panels."

"What a great experience with Daniel at Sunder Energy. We were actually going to go with another solar company, but when Daniel showed up, he pitched us his services. He walked us through the different products and which solar company would be installing our equipment. Daniel was with us every step of the way. Even when we had some issues with the installation of the equipment, Daniel made the calls to have the technicians come back and fix everything. Even when he was out of country, Daniel always returned our calls and text messages in a timely manner. Truly responsive! A few days after the installation, he even stopped by and had us load solar apps on our devices and walked us through what to expect. Although we were nervous in the beginning, Daniel made the whole experience worthwhile. Totally awesome customer service! If you're looking into solar, look no further. Give Daniel a call — you won't regret it!"

"This review is long overdue but I am glad we are finally getting to rave about how amazing our experience with Daniel and Sunsolar has been. I was EXTREMELY skeptical about the whole solar idea since my husband and I had such a horrible interaction with another solar company. A few weeks later Daniel knocked on our door. He politely asked if he could return the next day with a more in-depth proposal and if we were still not interested, he would 'kick rocks'. The following day he showed up on time, fully explained every detail, and even I, the self-proclaimed queen of skepticism, couldn't turn down the offer. A HUGE plus is that he didn't try to over-sell us more equipment than we needed. From start to finish the project took less than a month — not at all what we expected. From our interactions with Daniel down to every employee we spoke with, we were 100% impressed. We are now extremely happy solar owners and would highly recommend them to anyone on the fence about solar."

⚠️ 2026 update on the federal tax credit

The 30% federal residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) expired on December 31, 2025 for systems you buy with cash or a loan. Cost and savings figures on this page that assume that credit may be out of date. Two things still apply: Nevada's sales-tax and property-tax exemptions and NV Energy net metering, and systems on a lease or PPA may still qualify for a federal incentive through the end of 2027. For numbers that reflect today's incentives, book a free review and talk to a tax professional about your situation.

Solar FAQs — Las Vegas, NV

How much does solar cost in Las Vegas?
The average Las Vegas solar installation runs $2.85 per watt before incentives. For a typical 6–7 kW system, that's $17,000–$20,000 — Nevada's sales-tax exemption is already applied, and the 30% federal credit ended Dec 31, 2025, so there's no further reduction for a cash or loan purchase. $0 down financing is available, so many homeowners start saving from month one with no upfront cost.
Is solar worth it in Las Vegas?
Yes — Las Vegas is one of the most solar-favorable markets in the country. With 290+ sunny days per year, average electricity bills around $160/month, and a roughly 9–12 year payback for a cash purchase now that the 30% federal credit has ended — though NV Energy's rising rates keep pulling that number down — the math works for most homeowners. Factor in $51,532 in lifetime savings and Nevada's tax exemptions, and it's one of the strongest financial decisions you can make.
How does NV Energy net metering work?
Under NV Energy's net metering program, excess electricity your solar panels generate gets sent back to the grid and credited to your account at 75% of the retail rate. Those credits apply to future bills automatically. Systems must be under 25 kW to qualify, and unused annual credits may be paid out at a lower rate — so proper system sizing matters.
How long does solar take to pay off in Nevada?
Most Las Vegas homeowners see a payback period of roughly 9 to 12 years for a cash purchase now that the 30% federal credit has ended — though NV Energy's rising rates keep pulling that number down. The exact timeline depends on your current electricity usage, system size, roof orientation, and financing method. Cash purchases pay back faster; financed systems often show immediate monthly savings.
Do solar panels increase home value in Las Vegas?
Yes. Studies show solar panels add 3–4% to home value on average. In Las Vegas, that's $15,000–$25,000 in added value on a median home. And because of Nevada's property tax exemption, that added value doesn't increase your property tax bill.
What solar incentives are available in Nevada in 2025?
The 30% federal Investment Tax Credit ended December 31, 2025 for systems you buy — only leased or PPA (third-party-owned) systems may still capture a federal incentive through 2027. Nevada homeowners who buy can still take advantage of: (1) NV Energy net metering at 75% retail rate, locked for 20 years, (2) Nevada's property tax exemption on solar system value, and (3) Nevada's sales tax exemption on solar equipment. Ask Daniel for current eligibility details.
